Honey, Vinegar & Herbs
A traditional honey-and-vinegar botanical preparation used historically as a culinary drink, preservative, and herbal preparation.
There is something wonderfully old-fashioned about making medicine in the kitchen.
Join us at Aeaea for an evening of botanical alchemy, traditional herbalism, and a little autumn magic as we explore the ancient art of making oxymel.
An oxymel is a traditional preparation of honey and vinegar, often infused with herbs, flowers, spices, and fruit. For centuries, these sweet-and-sour preparations have appeared in culinary and herbal traditions—and they remain a beautiful way to work with plants today.
We'll explore the different ways herbs can be prepared and extracted, and discover the traditional and folkloric associations of some of our favorite botanicals.
Then comes the fun: you'll create your own botanical oxymel to take home.
Choose your ingredients by flavor, tradition, and intention. Perhaps something warm and spicy for the turning of the season. Something floral and sweet. Something bright and citrusy. Something rooted in protection, abundance, love, remembrance, or simply the pleasure of working with plants.
No herbalism experience necessary. Just bring your curiosity.
